I find myself using the Edit Person screen often, and would very much like links or icons on this screen that provide a way to jump to a person’s Ancestry or FamilySearch linked profile from this screen. As a bonus, it would be fantastic to be able to jump to the RM “share information” screen for that person (for Ancestry and FS) from this screen.
Right now, I am approximating the external links by manually creating WebTags to the individual’s FS and Ancestry profiles, but it is time-consuming (and there’s no way to automate creating these in WebTags).
As a suggestion, these could be part of a new left-hand icon that opens a panel for sharing info w the two applications. Alternatively, the FSID in the header could be made an active link (perhaps with an icon-link to the Ancestry profile).
This would speed up my workflow significantly. Thanks!
Meanwhile, whenever and while the Edit Person window is open, the main screen window is still available to switch to and, doing so, affords you a right-click upon the person being edited (where Jump to is).
Are you referring to “Jump to Ancestry” button? That is not I was requesting. What I would like is another “Option” in the TreeShare feature that when selected creates a webtag in the RootsMagic person record that references that person on Ancestry. And something similar for FamilySearch that gives the option of creating a webtag for the matching FSID.
I think you’ll find that the API file that controls TreeShare belongs to Ancestry (and, presumably FamilySearch too) not RM. That being the case you would need to ask them to alter the API file.
Thank you for your reply, and for the workaround suggestion to my suggested UI improvement.
Regarding exchanging information for a specific person with their linked FS and Ancestry profiles, is there a faster way than going to the Treeshare or FamilySearch Central screen and then searching for the individual? I’m hoping for a way to go directly to the Treeshare/FSCentral sharing screen for that individual. Thank you.
Within the “box” for that individual on the main screen… there are four icons in the lower right. Hovering your mouse over the far right of those, opens a menu where FamilySearch is an option and clicking that opens the FamilySearch Person Tools screen.
I am not seeing those icons in the Edit Person screen info (little head) in the left sidebar. I agree with the OP, I would love to be able to get to the FamilySearch Person Tools from the Edit Person screen. Having to remember the person’s name and then change windows to look them up is tedious. A link would be wonderful.
No one asserted those icons were in the Edit Person screen. They are on the main People screen (left menu) to which RootsMagic always opens. The icons are shown in the upper right or left corner info box …depending on the setting in the screenshot below. My first post in this thread explains access from the Edit Person window.
Renee seemed to indicate that. After a reread it could be taken either way. I’m sure the OP is aware of access to FS from the Main screen. (Love that the buttons are now clickable) The request was for some clickable access to be on the Edit Screen. It’s not unusual for me to be editing records where the Edit Screen person no longer is the same as the Main screen person. (I’ve wandered to parents or siblings using the ‘switch to’) That’s where it gets a more difficult to get to the FS Person Tools for that person. A button access would be great to have.
I’m pretty sure the Edit Person window can ONLY ever be the same as the original Main screen person. So, if you’ve changed the Main screen person… the Edit Person window can’t have buttons to Jump to Ancestry/FamilySearch for the “changed focus” person.
