Upload to Ancestry is frozen

I am trying to upload a family tree with about 2000 people. It has been frozen at 67% for 2 hours. Ancestry notes that the tree exists but says there are no people. Should I just cancel? Have I seen that perhaps I should just upload people 1st? If so, how is media added later?

The last time I had this happen (previous ver release) – I believe I force quit and reopened RM. Before I did I view on Ancestry and the counts looked correct. I did not upload media so that was not part of the equation – afterwards I had to fix one person that had a weird parent/bio/adoption relationship (which might have been the issue not sure). This was as 32K person tree. Also this was also before the most recent API fix

Not sure you want to risk aborting but maybe some one can suggest what method is “better” (cancel or force quit etc)

It really depends on how fast Ancestry servers are running. I would think after 2 hrs you would see progress. I would start over.

yeah in my case it stayed at the same perc % running all nite

Thanks to all for trying to help. I was able to upload successfully w/o media. Then I was told to delete html files and change file names with parenthesis, coma, etc. couldn’t just upload media. Some glitch. So I tried new upload with media and got to 80%. Does anyone have definitive list of file names that will stop media upload? Thanks.

Shouldn’t be a need to delete .html files they are simply bypassed and not uploaded to Ancestry. Naming of the media file could cause an issue. What you could try is breaking the media links on different file types and see if it changes anything. Just slip them into a different folder while you do the upload and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for suggestion. Will give it a go. I got Rottsmagic just to avoid manual merge in ancestry but may need to go that route. Software is too particular (or buggy!).

I’m having a similar problem. I have a much larger database (50,000) and need to completely upload my tree again due to curruption on the Ancestry side. I started the upload yesterday (MacOS Tahoe, RM 11.4). I’m at this point:

and it’s been that way for four hours. RM is consuming 25% CPU but appears to not have any disk or network activity.

I am giving up! I wanted to use Roots magic to merge 3 trees. I plan to create a merged GEDCOM and see if I can load into Ancestry. And forget about using sync feature. I’ve spent too many hours on this. For my recent attempt I removed media type J2K (AI sharpened photos) thinking that was causing issue. No go. And I’m disappointed that upload doesn’t put out message to ask for an action so it can continue. I would not recommend RootsMagic for anyone who wants to use with Ancestry. Oh well.

Since I use RM with Ancestry nearly daily with a file over 10 times your size and have for many years I think you’re being a tad premature. It seems odd that it’s media causing your issues. It would help to know what version of RM and what OS you are running on.

Maybe I was just being too pessimistic. I want it to work! I’m running RM 11.4 and Windows version 25H2. Any suggestions gratefully accepted
