Updating my TreeShare link to Ancestry

I successfully uploaded a portion of my database, using TreeShare to my Ancestry account. I neglected, however, to include the descendants of my ancestors when I did that upload. How do I go about correcting this in RootsMagic?

I’m a little puzzled by your problem. If you upload your database to Ancestry, it loads everybody. There is not an option to upload only a portion. Could you clarify how you uploaded only a portion? Or maybe did the upload fail before uploading everybody?

The only way to upload only a portion of your database would be using GEDCOM. Then uploading that to Ancestry. That is not what RM uses to work with Ancestry. Instead go to Publish, Ancestry TreeShare and upload your database to a new tree. That will include everyone in your database.

TreeShare uploads your Entire database not just a portion.

IF you created a new database with a “portion” of your data, you can upload as a new tree.

I didn’t know that the entire database was transferred from RootsMagic to Ancestry using TreeShare. Thank you for that information.

What I have right now on Ancestry is a family tree that does not include the descendants of my ancestors ( I made that mistake when I created it in RootsMagic ). I have attached about 100 media files to the people in this family tree.

I want to create another family tree on RootsMagic that includes the descendants of my ancestors. I want to replace the family tree that’s currently on Ancestry with this new family tree and retain the links to those 100 media files without having to redo everything.

How can I do this?

Create a New database and give it a name different from the one you have.
Select the Ancestor you want Descendants of.
Drag & Drop them onto the new database. You will get a Menu where you can pick the options you want (probably Descendants & their Spouses) and number of generations.
Look at the people in the new database and see if the results are what you want.
If not play with it until you get what you want.
Then upload via TreeShare with a new name.

I found this information on RM online help.

Do you think this will work?

  1. Disconnect my RM database from Ancestry
  2. Delete that RM database
  3. Create an new RM corrected database with the same name
  4. Reconnect that new database to Ancestry

I have not been able to find the disconnecting tool in RM 9 (not under Tools or File>Tools)

The Disconnect tool may be found under Settings > WebHint Settings (go figure). But you don’t need to disconnect since you are going to delete your RM database. That’s because the Connect/Disconnect status is in RM, not at Ancestry. So just delete that RM database.

So do steps #2 and #3. Doing step #1 won’t hurt anything, but it’s not necessary.

But I wonder what you mean exactly by step #4. You cannot reconnect your new RM database to an existing ancestry tree. You will need to upload your new ancestry database to a new ancestry tree. If I understand your situation correctly, the best thing to do would be to delete your existing Ancestry tree and then upload your corrected RM database to Ancestry.
