When I match with FS Person Tools and select the Sources tab it shows me “Czech: Pilzen Regional Archives, Czechia and Citation: Birth, Citation: Death, and Citation: Marriage”. But when I check the single box and share it with FS Sources I only get one source, Citation #1 Birth. The marriage and death sources don’t go over. How do I get them to go to FS? They are three separate citations in RM, but lumped under one master source.
I am aware that only the information under “Page Number” copies over to FS FT. I will lose the information that I have put into Citation Name, Research Note, and Detail Comment. Unfortunately
FamilySearch is doesn’t have the concept of a split master source and a citation. Because of this is appears to only accepts the source once for a person/fact and won’t accept the other citations connected to the master source. This has been reported to development. There isn’t a work around.
After sharing, you can edit the source on FSFT and manually update the Source Name with Citation details and use the Notes field for Research Notes/ Comments. (The Notes field prefills with the Source Comments.) The trick I use to workaround FSFT’s extreme source splitting model is to copy the Source on FSFT after the upload (Citation #1 in your example) and then edit the copies to create Citations#2 and #3. It requires some manual editing but less than would be needed if you typed the whole thing from scratch.
I was an extreme splitter back in the RM7 days because that was the only way to figure out how a source was being used. I changed workflow with the enhancements in RM8+ but haven’t bothered to go back and redo older citations. Creating a copy of the Source in FSFT seems a better solution to me than going back to being an extreme splitter.
Thanks, the tip to copy over multiples of the source and then edit them does make things go more quickly. It will be great if things get worked out so we can copy each one over intact.
