i don’t know if it’s possible, but i find it allmost impossible, when you want a fact copy to other persons to find at once the right one, de personview you see is sort on back names and then front names, but if you have let’s see 100 of the same backnames and you want to copy the fact too a specific birth year it is endles looking, would be nice if the personview you can then sort also on year of birth of death , when you ad a person, this is de same as when you search for a partner to check if you have this already,
With People List view tab as main screen focus, typing BACKNAME,FRONTNAME into Find Everywhere search field (at top right) “filters” the results to matches. THEN the matches can be sorted by “double-clicking” any of the column headings of the “customized” view… in this case Birth Date or Death Date.
Otherwise, the default action in both the lower left Index panel AND People List view tab for filtering is STILL Birth (Date) Year for all EXACT matches. If there are 100’s of DOE,JOHN they will be in ascending Year order BUT any variation such as DOE, JOHN Q will sort after DOE,JOHN (no middle name or initial).
I find it easier to use RIN numbers for these kinds of tasks.
If you have RINs enabled and you find the target person in advance in one of the People Views, you can then enter the RIN in the Rootsmagic Explorer window that pops up during the “Copy selected fact” workflow. That sorts immediately to the correct person.
It’s the same technique that folks have developed when sharing facts with more than 1 person, for example a census. In that scenario if you keep the family view visible it is easy to key in RINs,1 at a time, and quickly share a fact with multiple people. I have started using the same technique for copying and moving facts and find it easier and quicker than searching by name.
You can’t down load DNA matches into RM, they are manually entered and you have to know who the match is .
If you want to use your tree for matches, you have to upload your tree to the DNA testing companies web site. (Remembering to link your DNA test to yourself in the tree)
As others have said, you can’t download a DNA results or even a DNA MARKER fact to RM-- You can NOT upload any info that you list under the NEW DNA List also…
Know you didn’t ask abt this BUT
you can upload a DNA TEST fact or even a Customized DNA FACT to Ancestry-- These 2 facts will not show in the changed list-- you have to go to the person under show everyone and can add it from there OR NOT— BUT If you DO, I strongly suggest you mark your database as PRIVATE and marked that Ancestry can NOT add info to their search files etc …
The reason I say this is BECAUSE if you have a note on a RM DNA Test fact or Customized DNA fact ( using description or notes) that says Bob matched Joe at 2300cM, that note or description info will appear on Ancestry…
In my opinion this is a violation of privacy as the info of cM etc are only shared between you and the other person and as the other person, I would expect you to NOT post it on-line for everybody to see-- BUT maybe that’s just me…
Facts have a private check box that can be used to prevent sharing online. When you upload a new Ancestry tree the setting “Upload private facts/notes to your Ancestry tree” is left unchecked so they are not added. Once the tree has been uploaded there will be a lock symbol on any fact marked private so you know not to share it. The decision is yours on how you want to handle private facts/notes.
