I noticed there are about 6 or 8 MR11 User Guides on Amazon. Any opinions on which is the best for gaining a working knowledge of 11 and used as a reference for the software program itself? I don’t need a genealogy research reference manual. Would it be the one published by Bruce?
I’ve always found the online help pages to be good enough.
this for online ver
I personally would get the one from Bruce as this is put out by RM-- have no idea who these other people are and how they 'know " so much…
I looked at these books by people other than Bruce on Amazon. Wonder if they are less technical and contain better information on how to engage in genealogy research in general. I always buy Bruce’s books but they are technical in nature and other writers might weigh in on the how tos of genealogy that Bruce does not include. Has anyone purchased the others?
Look for the “Getting the Most Out of RootsMagic 11” by Bruce Buzbee.
Hi Ted. I have the one written by Bruce and I can attest that it’s a well-written guide and very useful for the purpose. (And that’s from someone who spent many years writing software documentation very similar to this, just for a different type of system).
The only downside is that it is a printed edition, so as they move forward with versions, the book you own becomes outdated. For example, I bought mine last fall, so it’s for RM10 but RM 11 is out now and some features are different. I still find it useful to refer to, but then I’m used to reading around the changes from one software version to another because of what I did for a living.
I will also say that RM produces really good videos through their YouTube channel and also that they have excellent help available through their wiki, so you might check those resources out too if you haven’t already.
Anyway, my 2 cents for whatever it’s worth. Best wishes,
Mardee
