In the last few days, I’ve had RM up when I activated the lockscreen on my MacBook, and twice when I returned it was no longer running. Both times I restarted it and it seemed fine. This is my standard practice when I walk away for a while, to lock the screen. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a log file somewhere I could check to see why it’s terminating?
Is it possible that your Mac performed updates? the only time I have seen that occur on a Windows computer is when windows performed updates? not sure if that happens similar with Macs.
In my opinion, it’s just not overly stable. Or at least on Macs. I’ve made it a habit to close the program anytime I’m done for more than a few minutes, despite how slow it is to load again. I have fairly frequent Sqlite errors, most often when copy/pasting text, then editing it.
Still willing to hold my breath and keep entering data though
Well, as Mac user , my experience is that there are no issues leaving RM running for a considerable period, even overnight. The only oddity I find is that when returning to the Mac after the screen has gone to sleep, RM seems to take a long time - several seconds - to wake up. I’ve no idea what it is doing and why, but no other application struggles with jumping instantly back into life. With an M3 iMac and SSD only drives, and with no pressure on main memory, everything should be very very fast. My RM will often be connected to Family Search, but not receiving hints from nor connected to Ancestry or the other hinting websites.
Just to expand a little on my specifics. The Mac never goes to sleep and everything continues to run (there are some on-going server-type activities running in the background), but with no user activity after a defined number of minutes, the screen goes to sleep and I do have to sign in again - via password, fingerprint or watch - when I interact again.
Software is the highest current level of MacOS and RM. (Tahoe will be the next adventure.)
Just to update, this has not happened again, which is my experience with RM over many years, that I just leave it running and all is good. But when it just vanished twice within a few days while the screen was locked seemed alarming. So far, so good.
