Here’s what I could find:
iMac running Big Sur 11.6.8
8 GB Memory (2 4GB banks) 1867 MHz DDR3
“late 2015” – I purchased it in 2016.
3.1 GHz processor, Quad-Core Intel i5
Memory not upgradable
1TB Memory SATA disk
I have 2 21" monitors that work well.
It took 4+ minutes to open the tab to reply to this email…
My RM7 databases are typically less than 5k individuals. EVERYTHING takes an eternity to open. Once it’s “warmed up” things go better, but this is nowhere as fast as my little iPad Pro.
Well, it seems that your Mac is struggling and your problem doesn’t look like it is anything to do with RM.
Before deciding whether to ’junk it’, I would try to do some investigation to see if there is an obvious cause, but that depends on your capabilities or your access to someone who knows their way around MacOS. If you are able, look at what is going on using Activity Monitor. Do you have enough free disk space? Maybe use Disk Utility to check your disk, etc. Try a Safe Boot. These are the sort of things I would try - and maybe try to invoke the system diagnostics to see if that throws up some hardware errors.
Probaably time for a current M1…M2 mac/iMac. You could check disk space, startup apps and login apps for wasteful ones. If using Chrome that is a dog right there. People doing genealogy are probably not spring chickens so make your life better with a new mac. You will gain so many enhancements beyond just the marvelous chip.
After doing the latest Monterey security update RM8 now takes twice as long to open: 27 seconds vs 14. CPU usage at idle remains at ~18%. FTM 2019 takes 3 seconds opening the same small file.
3 days later RM8 is now opening in 10 seconds. Perhaps the update required Spotlight indexing or RM8 learned how to settle down and open better.
I wish the mac access violation problem was reduced. Support have been taking my backup file, running the tools on a windows platform and sending it back!
Latest info from support is that
“Development checked on that issue and it apparently is from something in the Mac version SQLite engine that is the cause, not in the database file.I am not sure where the SQLite engine is invoked through, if it is in the program or where. It is the Mac SQLite code that where the error is coming and we have no control over that. I think that code is licensed and an update would have to come from the source.”
In summary there is still a problem and it has been with RM8 since it was released - Version 8.2.5.0 is no better.
This is the list of errors from the latest fix below in case anyone has any idea what it all means (other than Houston we still have a problem

I quickly looked over the ticket and you have a lot of discussions that are clipped together there. One issue was about database tools and the difference between what the Windows version and the Mac version reports. That part does deals with something in the program tools, but the database tools should still be working.
If your issue is about Access Violations errors than that is something different and if you are still having them then we need to address that. Open a different ticket and only address the issue with the AV errors if you are still receiving them.
Hello Chris
I am running RM8.2.5.0 on Win11 and separately on an M1 iMac. The integrity check issues that you list are what I saw when moving the rmtree from Mac to Win11 - exporting to ged on Win11- edit - then importing back to M1 iMac. An infrequent method for editing the ged but 8.2.0 had floating point errors for export - import etc. Make ged edits in Win 11 then no issues. I have not tried this with 8.2.5.0. and floating point errors were fixed in that update.
These row error messages never resulted in data corruption or other show stoppers. I dealt with them by using Database Tools and 1st running Rebuild Indexes - 2nd Test Integrity - 3rd Clean Phantom Records - 4th Compact.
Note NOT Access Violation but floating point errors.
