Has anyone used Rufus to skip the Win11 upgrade compatibility checks? If so, is RM11 now running successfully? I want badly to get rid of Windows but the Linux option is too iffy for me. So, in order to keep using RM, unless I want to spring for a new desktop, I’m looking at upgrading to Win11 on a perfectly functional older machine.
I looked into this on a previous machine but in the end upgraded as that machine had other issues. The advice I received was that it depended on what ‘failed’ the upgrade compatibility checks. Win 11 upgrades require certain minimum hardware standards with regard to CPU speed, RAM size, etc which are non-negotiable. It prefers 64 bit processors too. However it has a detailed list of processors that it will accept and if yours isn’t one of those then it will fail the test. There was a huge amount of anger when it launched that many perfectly good (and arguably better!) CPUs were not included in the list, most of them as they had not been used in Microsoft hardware (allegedly!).
If your machine only failed because of the CPU model I would, personally, give it a go. If it fails on other issues your machine may not run Win 11 properly. It is worth remembering too that Windows no longer supports Win 10 and will not support Win 11 if you upgrade other than by using their system.
Don’t know if the requirements differ but, as an alternative, you can buy sealed Win 11 DVDs from about £20 to £35 for the pro edition on e-bay (UK site) at the moment.
