RM app for Android

Is there a current RM app available for android besides Ancestry? I am currently using GedStarPro, an old app, but works well. I know there are others out there. On a visit to my local historical society, a gentlemen there had one, but I cannot remember the name of it. At the time it was current and still being supported. I thought he said it originated from France.

Heredis is available on Android. (Heredis is from France) The latest version is 2026.

I can’t say what it is like as I stopped using the PC version quite a few years ago.

Thank you, I will take a look at it. I am only looking for an android version. Why did you stop using it?

It was expensive … upgrade every year + you had to pay for both PC and Mac versions.

I also found it a but clunky to use.

OK. I will pass on that one. I really only want an app like Roots Magic had for viewing when I am away from my PC when someone asks me about a relative. GedStarPro works fine for that and its free. On my iPad I can still use Rootsmagic and keep it updated.

another option might be MyRootMagic that still works

Yes, but I was looking for something that would be on my phone and not require an Internet connection all the time.

I wonder if you could copy the website creation files (that are always generated) from your computer to a folder on your phone and browse it ?

I don’t know about that idea, but it seems to me from all the input, Gedstar Pro is my best option. It gives me my basic genealogy data on my phone and I don’t need an Internet connection to access it. I looked at My RootsMagic and it requires enlarging and moving whats showing on the screen around to be able to read it all. I can use the Roots Magic app on my iPad and as far as another PC, RootsMagic To Go will work for that or a Roots Magic CD.

Thanks to all who replied to my post. My objective was to see what else may be out there for an android phone and for now Gedstar Pro works for me.

The app looks very useful – given the need for “offline”. If you had a webhost and internet then I would suggest TNG.

Well. I do have Internet and have a web host for a hobby website. I was just giving the features of the app I use now when I said about not needing Internet. I will look into that one.

https://tngsitebuilding.com/ - you export GEDCOM – it will handle shared census if you use

I appreciate your input. My intention is not to start an online website for my genealogy. I use and am very happy with Roots Magic and the My Roots Magic website that works very well for PC. It does not adapt well for a phone. I don’t put my genealogy from my Roots Magic GEDcom file on Ancestry or any other site. Ancestry and My Heritage are too expensive for the amount of genealogy research I do. I did just take a subscription for a year at My Heritage because they had a very good rate and in the past Ancestry has had good offers for 6 months subscriptions. Family Search has loads of information that rivals Ancestry and its free.

totally understand the subscriptions costs are not worth it for many people and you do not want to be a web master either. (plus additional host fees)

Not sure if we will see an Android app in the near future. For now its looks like Gedstar Pro may be your best option when MyRootsMagic is not working for viewing device
