Removing an individual from tree

I erroneously added a great uncle into my tree. Is there a correct way of removing him and his wife without affecting a chain reaction of deletes of the following decendents and restore it to its original lineage?

Right-click him and choose Unlink>Unlink from parents
Right-click him and choose Add>Add parents>Select existing

Mr. KbensOn - I followed your directions as presented and when I affected the “unlink from parents” all of the generations after him disappeared as well! When I moved to my father and right clicked him to affect the "add parents>select existing, there were non to be had because, as I stated initially, the whole line of generations disappeared. The “add parents” was an option to choose, but the select existing did not show! Obviously, because they along with the lineage disappeared. That was the result of your suggestion. I have to believe it was not your intent for this to occur and I thought I would mention it to prevent it from occurring to others. My hopes diminished, but - no hard feelings. Just a lot of reconstructing ahead. Tx.

KbensOn - I do not know how I restored the lineage, but I did! To exhausted at this time to reenact my the moves I took to do so at this time. I’m going to sign out and have some watermelon.

If he had spouses and / or descendants … they remained attached to him. He just was freed from the wrong siblings and ancestors. You just weren’t familiar with how the Unlink operation works. Glad you figured it out.

Ahh. Watermelon hit the spot! Mr. Kbens0n, I would better describe my good fortune at restoring the data not so much as figuring it out but, rather as “stumbling” upon it.
He was a sibling of my grandfathers, a brother, so he actually was my dad’s uncle with the same lineage as my father’s. So, I’m assuming that is why they all disappeared. I have to reiterate though, following your instructions, the menus that were presented in no way gave me the option of “selecting existing _____” because there were no more to select from. Now, in revisiting my steps that enabled me to restore all of the lineage was simply adding my father’s parents and everyone linked to them came along. Yep, I’m quite sure that is what I did and what restored it all. I felt compelled to provide the info for everyone’s understanding.
I have another question, but I’ll put it under another topic as it truly is another issue. Thanks again for your assistance/guidance.

The Add>Add Parents> option always opens an Add Person screen and starts with Add Father and tells You in a phrase beneath Add Father, to whom it is adding the Father. Select Existing Person is an option there.

It then offers OK to the selection or your manually added New Person, followed by a matching screen sequence for Add Mother.

Mr. keens0n - After rereading your reply following my attempt, my failure to initiate the relinking was due to the fact that I attempted to do so at the same place that I delinked them, not where your illustration show it to be done. I did gravitate to that particular area and that is where I was able to gain all of the data back. Initially, as I stated, I was working in the tree where right clicking the individual gave me the option do -unlink, but not to link. My initial failure necessitated me to explore other avenues of relief and I was happy to hear that where I found resolvement was where you suggested I go.
