How can I remove an ex-spouse from my (printed) pedigree chart? I have seen how people can include their current spouse/exclude the previous one, but haven’t seen an option where there is no second marriage (ie the person is single, yet the ex appears on a printed chart).
Thanks
You would need to unlink him from yourself before printing the pedigree chart.
An alternative to unlinking is to change the spouse’s Primary name. You can use an underscore character for their given and surnames. When generating the chart the two underscores will mostly blend in with the underline where the spouse’s name resides. This is what I do for my ex-spouse whom I loath.
@rzamor1 …
I was thinking that another solution would be to output the report and then edit out the name. However, I noticed that the report output in Word is a flat PNG graphic image, uneditable, on a page. I suppose you could open it in Paint and fiddle around with the eraser.
It would be nice if the graphic could be saved in an SVG format, the same way a Fan Chart can. Then you could use something like Inkscape to easily edit, embellish, etc. That would be nice not only for removing stuff, but also changing fonts, adding icons and photos, etc.
Side note: I initially interpreted their request the same you did … removing their own ex-spouse. On reflection though I realized that there’s a more general use-case for removing someone from the chart.
What if someone’s 2nd-great grandfather was notorious in some way (Adolph Hitler perhaps) and they didn’t want to have the name on the chart, but did want to retain the other details and further-on ancestors? Unlinking would, unfortunately, distrupt that and remove them from the report too. At least if the graphic were easy to edit then the remove could be done by hand without affecting the rest of the chart.
Confirming request has been reported to development.
Thank you. I’m really surprised that this is already not an option. Yes - this option is for myself but I’m sure there are other people who don’t wish an ex partner front and centre of their pedigree chart.
He needs to be in my database, but I don’t think he needs to be visible for this report. Just because I was married for a few years shouldn’t mean he is relevant to my own pedigree chart. This is just like someone not including their first spouse, as they have since re-married.
