I am also a book/RTFM/type person and in another life wrote and edited a wide variety of instructional materials. In almost all cases, these were geared helping those, like me, who don’t yet even know enough to ask questions properly.

*“The Tools option will only be available if you have a file open.” *
Where is the proper place to post this type of question/post/comment?
Yes, I do understand how easy it is when many have long experience with program to drop into a mindset that treats such details “as a given” because it was that way in previous versions.

I have purchased all the books for the various versions of RM. Most lack clarity of descriptions as far as I am concerned. But since the earlier versions of the program 7 and lower) were quite intuitive, I did not need to look at the books very often. I am sure it would cost more to have the books edited to make them more readable, but editing would likely make them much more useful for beginners. I too have developed instructional materials in my field before retirement. Writing descriptive material for someone new to a field takes a special talent in my opinion. It is easy for the experts to miss how best to describe issues that are second nature to themselves.
I suspect we could exchange some amusing war stories. As you mentioned, yes, I can also be guilty of “assuming” others will have my knowledge base - that is why editors, need editors.
