I’m trying to create a custom report, and I am not able to adjust the column sizes by grabbing and sliding the vertical lines between the header columns. I can no longer get the icon with two vertical lines with the opposing arrows on each side to grab the separators between the headings. I can get those slide indicator in other parts of the program, and I’ve made sure I don’t have the numbers lock key engaged but I can’t get them in the Custom Reports feature. I’m using RM 11. Can anyone else replicate this problem?
Put the cursor in the header row for the column.
Adjust the column width% in the upper right, by using the arrows or entering a number .
Move the cursor down to Row 1 and it should adjust the column.
Yes, I see that it can be done that way, but doing it with the sliders was more precise, and much easier. Doing it by percentage you have to guess what percentage to use, run the report and keep changing the percentage, checking to see if it’s what you want and, if not making another guess, etc. until it looks okay. I’m disappointed with this method. It’s time-consuming and clunky. I was experimenting with the Custom Report feature as I had not used it in past–I don’t think it will work for me. Thanks for getting back to me.
have not tried in RM 11 – but yes agreed the % vs width were odd when I tried in RM10 and previous versions. For me it did not matter much because when I used it I exported to Excel so it really didnt matter – if you were doing PDF it would matter.
Confirming adjusting the width by sliding vertical lines has been reported to development.
Thank you for reporting it Renee.
When trying the custom report designer, if I resize the window the Column width selector box doesn’t move, so it then obscures part of the cell information. The column width % box doesn’t tell what the current width is - how can I change it and see the effects without having to generate the report? There are still no resizing bars at all. As it is, the Custom Report Designer is virtually impossible to use. I have not been able to find anything in the Help pages about resizing columns, maybe I am missing something.
If you move from the header to row it should adjust to what the column width is set at. If you have the window that small you won’t be able to see a comparison until you generate the report.
No, it still doesn’t work completely.
I have managed to get some of it working - but not as I would have expected or hoped.
There are still 2 issues:
- The ‘column width %’ selector is fixed - it doesn’t move if the window (opened at its default value) is enlarged (if the window is reduced, the selector box disappears completely), but the the label ‘column width %’ does move - something wrong here.
- If I choose a column, change the width in the column width box and then click in the row, the column width box does show the new width. Fine. But I still don’t know the widths of the remaining columns, even if I click in the header, row or anywhere.
If I set the first column width at 6, then I have to work out the widths of the remaining columns by calculating (100% - 6) / x (where x is the remaining number of columns and assuming all the remaining columns are the same width). Why can’t the widths of the unchanged columns be shown in the selector box?
I know the lack of resizing bars has been reported.
