How can I rearrange photos in a scrap book? I would like to have the parents first followed by the children.
The family scrapbook would include media on the spouse row or family facts like a marriage. The media on the spouse row comes before the family facts. They can be organized individually on the Media tab on the Edit Person screen. The Spouse row media comes after the individual facts. Its under Family and the couple’s name. The family facts come after that. If you wanted the children’s pictures to show you would have to add it to a family fact.
First of all, all scrapbooks have a “with or without details” option when printing the scrapbook. There are four kinds of scrapbooks: person, family, source, and place.
- For a person scrapbook, without detail is just the media for the Person record. With detail includes media for the Person record and for all Individual facts such as Birth and Death. Your “with details” option for person facts is all or nothing. You cannot pick and choose which individual facts individual facts to include and omit.
- For a family, without detail is just the for the Family record. With detail includes media for the Family record and also media for all family facts such as Marriage and Divorce. Your “with details” option for family facts is all or nothing. You cannot pick and choose which family facts to include and omit.
- For a source scrapbook, without details is just the media for the Source records. With details includes media for the Source record and for all subordinate Citations associated with the source. Your “with details” selection for Citations is all or nothing. You cannot pick and choose which Citations to include and omit.
- For a place scrapbook, without details is just the media for the Place records. With detail includes media for the Place record and for all subordinate Place Details associated with the place. Your “with details” selection for Place Details is all or nothing. You can’t pick and choose which Place Details to include and omit.
I realize that you are only interested in Family scrapbooks at this time. But I thought it might be helpful to see the big picture of how printing scrapbooks works. As I said, ,there are four kinds of scrapbooks, and each one of them works the same way - with details or without details. Also, just because a photo has been attached somewhere does not mean that the photo is in a scrapbook. Each place a photo is attached it has to be marked as in the scrapbook where it is attached or not in the scrapbook where it is attached. So I’m assuming you have marked all the photos of interest as being in the scrapbook.
So now to your family scrapbook question. I have to ask a question in return. Exactly where are your photos attached to family scrapbooks? I’m guessing that they are attached to the Family record and not to Family facts such as Marriage and Divorce. So let’s proceed along with that assumption and assume that you are printing a Family scrapbook “without details”, which is to say without media for Marriage facts and Divorce facts. If some of your photos are attached to family facts such as Marriage and Divorce, it’s more complicated and I’m not sure you can get them all in the right order in your scrapbook report.
This “Family record” I’m talking about is a bit of a confusing concept in the RM user interface. Suppose John Doe is married to Jane Smith and they have two children, William Doe and Elizabeth Doe. If you look at the Spouse line in John Doe’s Edit Person screen and the Spouse line in Jane Smith’s Edit Person screen and the Parents line in William Doe’s Edit Person screen and the Parents line in Elizabeth Doe’s Edit Person screen, you will be looking at the exact same data - namely the “Family record” for that family. Any change you make, like adding media, will instantly be visible in all four Edit Person screens. So if you add a photo of Elizabeth to the Parents line in her Edit person screen, that photo will show up instantly in the Spouse line for John, in the Spouse line for Jane, and in the Parent line for William.
So assuming you don’t want to include photos from things like the Marriage fact or the Divorce fact, you really only have one place to enter all the media for the family. It’s in the Edit Person screen. It doesn’t matter which of the four people you use. Just be sure to use the Spouse line line if you are using the Edit Person screen for John or Jane and be sure to use the Parents line if you are using William or Elizabeth.
And finally, what if the photos are not in the desired order? The way to fix it is to go to the Edit Person screen for any one of the four people and to click on their Media icon at top of the far left side of the Edit person screen. Scroll down to the Family for John Doe and Jane Smith. Select the Family, and you can rearrange the media as desired.
Was hoping for a easy way to order the photo with parents first, followed by the children.
So it comes back to where you entered entered the photos. If you entered them for the family as a whole, you should be able order the photos as I described. If you entered them for family facts such as Marriage or Divorce or for some other family facts, then I’m not sure I know how to order them. So exactly where did you enter the photos?
Instead of one scrapbook you may need many. That is where Books could help. You could create a book of multiple scrapbooks in the order you wish.
I thank the both of you for your help. You have given me much information to study through. I will save all of it to a Word document so I can use it as I work through scrap booking.
I don’t understand what you mean by where I entered the photos. I think at this point if I want a scrap book I will just use Power Point.
Is there a YouTube tutorial on this? I don’t understand spouse row and how scrapbook relates to Edit Person screen. BTW, I am using RM9, maybe that is why I am having problems understanding.
I made a video that you can view at Demo of RM scrapbooks The length is 9:31, which is longer than I wanted but it seemed necessary. I’m on RM10, but the scrapbooks work exactly the same on RM9 as they do on RM10.
I don’t know if the RM company itself has any scrapbook videos on line. If they do, I’m sure their videos will be much smoother and more polished than mine. One thing I didn’t do in my video which is easy to do is to add captions to each photo. If you add captions, the captions show up in the Scrapbook Report.
Thank you, I will definitely take a look. I really would like to understand scrapbooks.
Went through it once and the light came on. I will work with it more tomorrow. Thanks so much. I am a visual person and what you did helps greatly!
