People imported from my FS family tree meaning nothing to me

As already said, every person I added to my tree was only added after cross-checks, and on the basis of various acts. I therefore see no reason that could lead me to delete any person added by myself.

Definitely NOT electronic witchcraftā€” you listed Moeremans below your user name which gives us an idea on what line to start searching forā€”donā€™t know abt Familysearch BUT Ancestry lets you search by user names as well as full names-- you would be surprised what you can find out abt living people with a name and a fact or two-- add a spouse or parent who has died and you can usually figure out their ancestry and or who they married/ kids-- just depends on what records are out thereā€“thatā€™s why they keep saying the less you post abt your kids and yourself on social media, the better off you areā€¦

All well and good. Sometimes other FamilySearch users react with disdain for subsequent linking and changes by others and edit warring ensues. Iā€™m sure Renee was just fleshing out an understanding that once uploaded to Family Tree, the shared nature of the tree comes into play.

It was brand new EMPTY database ā€¦ Regarding Brussels / Leuven, Belgium is such a small country ā€¦ In my laymanā€™s opinion, (you all seem to be pros in this field ā€¦ ) if the surname Tosseyn appears in my RM import without appearing in FS (and not only in ā€œmy treeā€ but nowhere else on FS in relation to any person present in my tree) it means something is not working. Either in FS, or in RM, or in both.

Iā€™ve gotten lost in the context. If your import brought down some Tosseyn folks, are You asking how they relate (have become linked) to your tree members? As in, where on Family Tree?

You/re not lost but correct. Iā€™m probably lost. Iā€™m asking how they relate (have become linked) to my tree members. And as in, where on Family Tree?

You show a screenshot of the Index filtered on the surname; Are we to infer that the Pedigree view for each/all of those is non existent (ie. doing a Count Trees from the Palette menu shows that surname, spouses and associated children isolated to its own tree)?

And TBH, yes, youā€™re lost, because there is a connection between you and the oldest Tossain that I can find on FS. I know that, because I used a competing program to download all descendants of the oldest Moeremans, and then tried to guess where you fit in, meaning that I looked for the youngest deceased Moeremans, because that person might be your father or grandfather, or a sibling. And when I found that person, born in 1950, I let that other program download all his ancestors, and found a line. And that proves that both FS and RM are OK. I did all this, because I have Flemish ancestors too, and I am always looking for new connections.

Hereā€™s the line, shown in Gramps, in Dutch, but I bet that you get the idea:

Gezocht naar de relatie tussen
Louis Achille Moeremans (beginpersoon) en
Joannes Deodatus Tossain (actieve persoon)ā€¦
Vond relatie #1:
Joannes Deodatus Tossain [stamovergrootvader (11 generaties)]
vader van Joannes Tossyn [stamgrootvader (10 generaties)]
vader van Petrus Tossyn [stamvader (9 generaties)]
vader van Joanna Tosseyn [oudbetovergrootvader (8 generaties)]
vader van Alexander Deswert [oudovergrootvader (7 generaties)]
vader van Maria Josepha De Swert [oudgrootmoeder (6 generaties)]
moeder van Anne Catherine Cols [oudmoeder (5 generaties)]
moeder van Marie Louise Neus [betovergrootmoeder]
moeder van FranƧois Neys [overgrootvader]
vader van Catherine Henriette Neys [grootmoeder]
moeder van Paul Antoine Moeremans [vader]
vader van Louis Achille Moeremans
zelf van Louis Achille Moeremans

I used that other program, because its import speed is quite a bit higher than RMs, and verified the relationship on-line by starting with Louis Achille, and following all steps reported by Gramps. And I use Gramps, because RootsMagic doesnā€™t speak Dutch, and I like open source.

Wouaw. Impressive. Really, impressive. But as I said, Iā€™m a layman in this stuff.
Louis Achille was my brother.
FYI I am a native French speaker maar Nederlands stelt inderdaad geen probleem.
May I know the name of your competing program ?
Or, even better, get the overall result of your search ā€œMoeremansā€ ?
Kost niets om te vragen ā€¦
Anyway, hats off to you for solving the riddle and thanks for the time and energy you put into it. Also, many thanks to all the people who came to my rescue.

Family Tree Maker, which can only READ from FamilySearch, not WRITE to it.
EDIT:
Wrong guess on my partā€¦

The competing program is Legacy 10. Legacy is one of the 3 Windows programs that I tried to exchange data with FamilySearch, and itā€™s the fastest of all. It looks awful however, IMO, as if it was made for Windows 3, or maybe 95, and never changed. Itā€™s also less connective than RM, in the sense that it has a focus on FamilySearch, and the companyā€™s new owner, My Heritage, where RM integrates well with Ancestry too, and can show hints from Find My Past.

Of these 3, RM is the most modern, and the most pleasing to my eyes, and thatā€™s important when you want to make detailed comparisons between your own database and your tree on Ancestry, or your own ā€˜departmentā€™ on FamilySearch.
