My database is Read Only

My database is Read Only.
Tried add new facts - is this the reson?
If so, how do I change to Edit?

What, EXACTLY, is there error you are getting? Are you on Windows or Mac, and what version of the operating system? Is your database file that you are using, on a CD or DVD? Have you checked the file permissions? On a Windows machine, that is normally a right click on the file and selecting Properties making sure that the tick box for Read-only is not checked.

Tick box for Read Only was checked (Skrivskydd in swedish).
Thanks.

This happened to me, even though the file wasn’t read only. I realised it was because the hard disk the file was on was full, as soon as I made some space and reopened Rootsmagic it was editable. There were some technical error messages that came up but it would be ideal if it was a bit clearer that there needs to be room on the disk. Hope that helps.

Another reason a database will be read-only is if you are using a Shareable Drive. Is your program installed in the Program Files (x86) folder?

I have had an ongoing issue with my database opening in Read Only mode. The only way I can get it to open is to reboot my computer. I use Carbonite to backup, and I think Carbonite is the issue. I just changed it so RootsMagic is not part of the Carbonite backup, and it eliminated the problem. I’m not renewing Carbonite because the cost keeps increasing and I have other backup methods including One Drive. If you have this problem and use Carbonite, it may be the cause.

OneDrive is not a backup service. Consider something like iDrive $8 first year for 5TB many computers which is a backup service.
