I have a online Ancestry tree that is indexed with all my DNA relatives. I have an offline Roots Magic Tree that contains a new branch of my family tree with about 500 people, that needs to be merged into my online ancestry tree, without losing my current DNA indexing. Is this possible? I’m hoping I don’t have to re-index all my DNA relatives.
You didn’t indicate if the Ancestry Tree has been downloaded?
If NOT - use TreeShare to download it to your computer (see video on TreeShare).
Then Backup your file and you can then Drag & Drop the 500 people to it. (I would color code them so you know who they are)
Now you can use TreeShare to add those people to Ancestry.
That’s what I’m in the process of trying now… it’s the first time I’m using tree share. Thank you very much for your response.
Does each person have to be added individually or can I add everyone in tree that has the new family branch. Is they’re an option to copy all people to the ancestry tree…
1 by 1. Watch the video (it’s an older one but works for v10) https://youtu.be/oDOlq7EFIWA
The tree that I was merging was also an online ancestry tree, however when I downloaded it to Roots Magic I never disconnected it from ancestry, so when I merged it with the full ancestry tree, it didn’t show the changes since it was still linked to the original New Branch tree.
After I disconnected it it did show changes and it was easy to isolate them and add them… thank you very much for your help.
But also doesn’t look like there’s any other way to add them all, it would be nice if they have a checkbox where I could select them all and then add them in a group rather than clicking ad for all 500 people being merged into the new tree… at least that’s the only way I see to do it for now.
After adding one person check their family members and add them off the same profile. It will cut down having to visit each profile.
