@rzamor1 Please, can I ask for an additional media sorting option?
Current options are “Sort by Caption” and “Sort by Filename”
Could we get a 3rd “Sort by Date Added” (to database)?
Here’s why … After I do an Ancestry TreeSync, I go to the newly downloaded media and work with it. (Move it to my own directory structure, rename it to my own filename standards, etc). It sure would be handy to sort by the date the media was added, making it much faster to access.
Thanks for the consideration
Kimberly

good idea – and you might as well make a 4th - but the Media date. This might sort similar to the people view cols

I see your 4th and raise you all in
How about allowing sorting by any of the media metadata fields (type, filename, caption, description, date and ref#)?

If one sorts by a table’s primary key, the records will be in the order added. If one sorts by the column UTCModDate, the records will be in edited date order.
It’s all in the database already accessible by SQL, just need a user interface update to do it within RM.

agreed but I think @KimberlyGreen was referring for something to be available in RM UI
Yes, I did mean within the RM UI. (So did Richard.)

Can we use the Meta Caption to be the Roots Magic Caption? Then other software (Windows OS) and searches could work. That is, RM read and write to meta data.
If all media file names begin with the surname, and file name dates have a consistent format, and file name events have a consistent name or abbreviation, a simple search will work – kind of. It will not be the initial display. Sorry. Just a thought.
Lets says 50% of people agree with that – that is still 50% that dont. I Have Surnames in my media file name – but not beginning, More importantly RM does not name media – the person does (or ancestry) or the place it came from originally.
Confirming request has been submitted to development.
When looking for newly added media from TreeShare I go to the media folder itself and sort on the date. Then I look for the filename inside of RM, open File Explorer from there to move and rename. That way the link is still there when saved.
