How I let my RM11 Database growing up

I like to discuss my work style, my proceed.

(1) I create and work fine with groups. So I start with all my ancestors. Group named Ancestors (0)

(2) Then I created a second group. Ancestors (1) with my Ancestors and their siblings.

(3) I create a group named Siblings (1) - Generation of descendants 1 (absolute relation bec. its easier to handle with)

Siblings = Ancestors with descendants (1) - Ancestors (1)

(4) I select all the second spouses of my ancestors (0) and match them in a group.

(5) Then I can create a group of the half sibblings of my ancestors.

(6) I also create a group of Descendants (1) incl. desc. spouses

I compared this group with the group of siblings and half siblings. So I get also the second spouses of my ancestors. This is what I found out.

(7) So I worked further and create groups of the second generation.

I get also only the cousins / grandchildren of the ancestors and separate their spouses.

Only by working with groups can I define new groups and distinguish them by color.

I’m currently working on the fourth generation, and the number of people is finally decreasing. I see the great advantage in not getting lost in collateral lines. First the ancestors, then their descendants. This keeps everything systematic.

I’m curious to see how far the generation sequence goes. The longest line of ancestors is 14, and the line of descendants of the oldest ancestors is currently 9.

Once I’m finished, I’ll try to compare my main groups with MyHeritage and Ancestry data.

Vorfahren = Ancestors. Nachkommen = Descendants, Ehepartner = spouses, Geschwister = siblings, Enkel = grandchildrens …

farbcode = colour coding

Here the important groups I use

Ancestors (0) - the most important group (0 means generation 0)

ancestors (1) and sibbling

now you can define the sibbling group …

(there are not half sibblings in it, these I get separat using the in-law group of ancestors)

ancestors (1) and the descendants

(better named ancestors and descendants (1) - but so it is better sorted)

in-law of the sibblings

These group and the in-laws of the next generations helps to bound the persons of your database.

So you can continue as well with next generations.

I’ve currently decided to include four generations, and additional generations only if they have a local connection to my ancestors. So, one group (ancestors (5) and descendants) and one group (local residents). That makes almost 4,000.

I also have a group of special individuals, hand-selected

  • whom I’ve met personally
  • emigrants or resettlers

… and the important group of top ancestors for further research.

here are some locals

Which groups I still missing?

Best regards

Ingo

PS: bad screenshot at top ancestors - the number of parents is equal = 0

… and I use groups for the color codes (Farbcodes). So it is easy to define the codes by numbers not by names in the color code tool

and in the group of ancestors (1) and descendants are the parents in law included. So I have separate them also, but with SQLite tool. There are only 33 that I could have assigned to a group manually.
