How can I select a profile picture from the media in a scrapbook for a person

When I select the profile picture and choose “select”, the default is for all media in my database to be listed which is not very helpful. As a result I have been selecting the drop new media option and dragging the relevant media item from where it is stored on my database. I was hoping that it was possible to select a media item from the existing scrapbook for this person but I cannot see a way to do it.

My main question is can I select it from the scrapbook? But also is there a way to restrict the list given to those relevant to the existing person? Finally am I creating “duplicates” by selecting the add new option?

Thanks

Cathy

Yes, using Add New Media repeatedly for the same media item will create duplicates. That’s usually a Bad Thing.

I’m not sure understand your process completely, but here is how it is supposed to work.

When you first link a media file into RM, you can use Add New Media or Drop New Media. If you do it from the main media tab, it will link the file into RM without tagging the file to a particular item in RM such as a person or a fact or a citation. If you do it from the Edit Person screen, it will link the file into RM and at the same time it will tag the file to the particular item you are already working with such as a person or a fact or a citation.

After a media file is linked into RM for the first time, the concept is to use the Select Existing Media option rather than Add New Media or Drop New Media when you are tagging the media files to additional items in RM such as people or facts or citations. This is the procedure that will avoid duplicates. When you use the Select Existing Media option, RM does not go back to your Windows or Mac file system to find the file. Rather, it looks in its own internal list of files that have already been linked into RM.

When you in the Edit Person, Select the Media you already have.

OR from the Main Media window find the pic you want, click on it and then “TAG” to the Person. It does help if you have a naming convention for your pics.
