For Mac users, the ability to directly save to Pages vs Word would be much appreciated.
Do you have something against Windows user? (mostly sarcasm)
Against Windows users? Never. I admire your patience every time an update takes 45 minutes. ![]()

not with a fast SSD (or better NVMe SSD) but yeah they used to take a long time with older hardrives etc.
I was just teasing. It’s about the same on a Mac ![]()
Hmm. As another long-term macOS user, I couldn’t care less about ‘Pages’ and nothing would convince me to use it. Apple seems content to maintain it’s incompatibility with other word processing software, limiting its capability to a relatively narrow range of import/export possibilities, but it can import .doc and docx files.
AFAIK Apple doesn’t publish the information that would be required to enable another software to write .pages files. There is no other software I’m aware of that can produce Pages files and I’m sure that some of the dedicated and long-standing macOS Genealogy software would do so if it were easily possible.
Charting companion opens directly into Pages, but it’s probably using .RTF, I’m not sure. But yes, you’re correct as far as I know, no one does. Pages doesn’t open docx nicely in my opinion. I might try Google Docs, but I’m not a google fan.
Interesting viewpoint. I find Pages an excellent program compared to MS Word and it handles .doc/.docx files fine for me on the rare occasions I have to deal with the dark side. Numbers similarly aces MS Excel for me. Both are stable platforms with an excellent interface once you realize the format and document icons are key.
I prefer them too, but i don’t always get great results importing docx files.
