Okay, so I want to start out by saying that this might well be a PICNIC (Problem In Chair, Not In Computer), but I’m trying to upload sources to FamilySearch using the Share Data feature and it’s not working.
Here’s the steps that I’m following:
Access FamilySearch Central.
Click on the Share Data Icon
Find the person that I want to update in the list.
Go to the sources tab.
Click the checkbox next to the source that I want to push to FamilySearch. Enter the reason.
Brief pause, then the lists refresh on both the RootsMagic and the FamilySearch side.
Review the FamilySearch list in RootsMagic. The new source does not appear.
Review the person on the FamilySearch website. The new source does not appear.
This was happening last night but I decided to wait and try it again today just in case there was a short-term problem with the interface, but it’s still happening today.
Thoughts? Happy to take any feedback if I’m doing this wrong. Thanks!
EDITED TO ADD: It appears that Share Data isn’t working either. I decided to just transfer the facts and then add the sources manually, but the facts are not going over either. I am pretty sure I have done this successfully before, so I’m not sure what the issue is.
I just tested and I was able to add sources to FamilySearch using 11.1.2. Are you trying to send a reused citation, or a source with a different citation attached?
Sorry, I was a software tester for years so I totally should have known to post this. It was last night on 11.1.1.0 but I’m downloading 11.1.2.0 now and am going to try again.
I was trying to data share facts (when FS calls events) and couldn’t get those to go over, but I also was trying to push sources over and those weren’t working either. Very likely they were reused citations, since I try to keep the number smaller by using the same citations whenever I have an event that applies to more than one family member - is that a limitation? If so, I will adapt what I’m doing accordingly.
If it’s working for you, maybe it was a network connectivity issue or something. I can wait and try again. I’m also downloading the latest patch (11.1.2.0) to make sure that everything is up to date. I doubt that would impact this, but like to stay current just because it’s good practice.
FamilySearch has a different concept of citations than RM. If you try to send the same source more than once to a person, even with a different citation it won’t take it.
That might explain it. I need to test it again so I can be more specific about the fact types, as I didn’t think about that at the time. Also, I don’t think I was trying to send sources that were already on FamilySearch, but again, I need to test this so I can be more clear about the specifics. Thanks for given me those ideas to pursue.
Is there a cheat sheet of any kind that shows what fact types match up to FamilySearch fact types (and ditto for Ancestry, if available)? I tried looking at the Wiki before replying to you and couldn’t find that level of detail in the documentation.
I don’t have a list of what fact types FamilySearch has that match the RM ones. I only have which family facts FamilySearch support. They won’t accept custom family facts.
Family Facts FamilySearch supports: Annulment, Common Law, Divorce, Marriage
