Many times when viewing a person in FS Person Tool > Ordinances tab, their “Unofficial Ordinances in RootsMagic” will show values of “Need Permission”, while the “Official Family Search Ordinances” will be blank. When directly checking the FS site, the Need Permission value is correct. Is there a reason why the RM “Official” side does not show the "Need Permission value? Will the “Unofficial” data always be correct? Can this be fixed?
I’ve never seen that before. RM doesn’t have a “Need Permission” ordinance status, nor does FS. About the only way to achieve that is to manually add an ordinance fact in RM and put that text into the Date field. Open their Edit Person screen and see if it’s there.
The FS side is correct if the person was born within the last 110 years. You need to go online to fill out permissions. That is where you will see “Request permission”.
I would not recommend adding ordinance facts with status notes like that. When the ordinances are eventually done adding the completed ordinance will not overwrite the earlier one. It makes more work for yourself to go in and delete them, especially each one individually. I made a custom FSFT fact where I note their ordinance status. Permission is one status I put in the description field. It allows me to create groups to work from that way.
Hello Renee, it actually shows up in FamilySearch as “Request Permission”. I see it everywhere in FS. It seems RM pulls it in as “Needs Permission”.
FamilySearch changed it’s policy about 6 months ago. They are now enforcing the rule that you must be related to the person regardless of the 100 year rule. Therefore you now get the message “Permission Required”. Permission can olny be granted by a parent, sibling or a child of the person. The only other person is a bishop. You can do the spouse of a person but no other relative of the spouses family. This is now softeware enforced based on how the person shows in the FamilySearch Tree.

I need a FSID of someone that you see on the FS side in RM where is says “Needs Permission” or “Permission Required”. Neither of those should be showing. If permission is needed you should see nothing on the FS side, no options to reserve ordinances or add a status. If you are seeing that on the RM side then its something you added manually.
I finally added a dummy person to FamilySearch not connected to me in anyway so I could test how it handles ordinances now. On the FamilySearch website under Ordinances it will say “You must be related to request these ordinances.” In the RM FamilySearch Person Tools it will show “Not available”. If the deceased person was born within the last 110 years then the FS side of the FSPT is blank. On the FS website its says “Request permission”.
I hope you all don’t mind if I jump back in with another interesting FS temple ordinance question. In the FSPT an ancestor of mine has one set of data for completed ordinances, the Official FamilySearch Ordinances shows Not Available for all of them, and the FS website for this person shows a completely different set data for completed ordinances.

Any ideas why? I’m assuming the FS website is the correct information.
