Fact type = Migration

Years ago I created my own fact: Migration which I use in place of Immigration and emigration (which always confused me). Migration allows me use Place as the end point of a geographic move and Description to explain how and why. It can be used to show a person moving from town to town, or state to state, not just country to country.

Other fact types I created and use often: No issue and Mistress.

Here’s my method for remembering the difference:

  • E = Emigration = Exiting
  • I = Immigration = Incoming

Still, only works between countries and require 2 entries usually in the same year which then need sort dates. I got frustrated and created my own “world”.
