Entry vanishing from index list but there on searching

I used Roots Magic 7 for years with no problems however when I was modifying some entries the people then disappeared from the index list completely. They still appear on the tree and if I use the search facility they come up in the list but in the wrong place by birthdate. How can I get them back into the index?

Have you tried to reindex the records (File-Tools–Rebuild Indexes)?
