Duplicate Orphaned records created by Ancestry Code

Looking for a way I can identify and eliminate Duplicate orphaned records in my tree created by an Ancestry coding error. My tree is DNA indexed and want to retain my 100’s of DNA indexed relatives.

I have 100’s of duplicate orphaned records in my tree caused by Ancestry code.

** Error descriptions ** Errors only occurs on an Android APP"
I identified two Errors in the Android Ancestry App, I identified this error on 2/2/2025 in V17.3 and reported the error to Ancestry Support, Customer Solutions, and Management. I have recreated this problem on multiple Android devices. Ancestry for some reason is reluctant to help me.

Problem #2
When adding a profile picture from the EDIT screen of a person a duplicate person is created, The duplicate is not created when using the Profile screen of the person.

Problem #1- Reported on 2/5/2025
When connecting a person to a record (parent/child/spouse) from an existing record the person did not get connected and created a duplicate new record of the person trying to be connected. Ancestry finally addressed this is on ≈ 2/28.

I have other errors identified and reported to ancestry over a month ago and Ancestry will not provide me any status or estimate problem resolution. I’ve sent videos of the Ancestry code creating these duplicates and other errors, but Ancestry does not respond to my inquiries.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Is your question “How might I use RootsMagic to find and correct these duplicate orphaned records in my Ancestry Tree?”

Here’s a general suggestion, starting with having downloaded your Ancestry Tree (AT) to a RM database.

  • Unconnected people will show up as a tree of 1 member when you run the RM function Count Trees

  • You can also identify them using Advanced Search with criteria:
    Number of parents=0
    AND
    Number of spouses=0
    AND
    Number of children=0

  • You can also create a named group with the same criteria in Mark Group.

  • Filter the TreeShare list by that group and take action from there, deleting the person from both sides.

  • Or you could make an Individual List report filtered by that group and use it to work directly on Ancestry to find and delete each one.

  • I believe you can now delete all the members of a group from the RM10 database.
