When I connect to Ancestry Tree Share, any profile that I have updated either on Roots Magic or Ancestry will appear as a changed profile. Most of the facts will identify new sources and after I have update them all and Accepted Changes my Roots magic profile for that person will now have many duplicate sources for most of the facts that already had sources. Not sure why the sync operation doesn’t recognize the sources in RootsMagic as already existing. Is there any way to clean them up for multiple profiles or do I need to delete the duplicates on each profile individually?
Depending on the exact situation, you can probably go the main Sources tab and do Merge All Duplicate Sources followed by Merge All Duplicate Citations to solve the problem. In RM11, click on Tools to see those tools. Prior to RM11, click on the 3 Dots icon to see those tools.
It’s not particularly common, but there is a chance you will run into some sources or citations from Ancestry that appear to be duplicate in RM but still won’t merge. Such citations really aren’t the same, but they do differ only in either the media file or the Web Tag. Such citations come from collections in Ancestry that really are only partially indexed. RM used to merge these anyway, but RM has been changed to avoid merging them. Let’s wait and cross that bridge if you encounter any Sources or Citations that look like they are duplicate and still won’t merge.
There is a similar problem with media. Whenever a profile is changed and synced between RootsMagic and Ancestry Tree Share, it seems that the media files are copied to RootsMagic even though they already exist there. Consequently many of my profiles have multiple copies of the same media files. I would like to be able to delete the duplicates, but can see no other way than to go through each person individually. A major effort wince I have close to 6000 people in my database.
