I hadn’t noticed that, but it’s true. However, I think there is a bug. Namely, when the couple is listed twice in the Couple List, the marriage date and place are the same both times. If they are going to be listed twice because there are two Marriage facts, then it seems only logical that there should be a separate listing for each separate marriage. Namely, the second listing should show the marriage date and place for the second marriage. If it’s working as designed, then I think it’s a poor design.
I kind of like that it lists the couple twice. It’ provides a cue that the couple was married twice to each other. Now that I know about the clutter, I welcome the clutter. I will not create an Alt Marriage fact to avoid the clutter.
I don’t view it as a bug, if only because until late in the 20th century, a marriage/divorce/remarriage was a rare thing, unless one is has a number of rock musicians or Elizabeth Taylor in their database. I have two out of 10,000 individuals in mine (one in 1992, another in 2007), and suspect I might find one or two more, but created the custom family fact for remarriage so I can easily find those with such an event, as well as avoiding the cluttering of another fact.
I also in this case don’t find it poor design; It’s just one of those things that no one (both the programmers and customers) had given much thought to before. When did RMG (or FO) first create the possibility of same-sex marriage in the database? They do an excellent job on that count; this should be considered more as a suggestion to allow the entry of multiple marriages by a single couple without disrupting the reports.
(–i or s “single couple” an oxymoron? --)

Confirming this has been reported to development.

With same sex marriages the Partner option has been in RM since version 4. True support began in RM8 with the Other option to customize the labels as needed.
