I am on a MacBook Pro. I want to print a descendant chart, the typical kind where oldest are at the top of the page, names in squares, following down the page to the youngest. When I pick orientation of “top to bottom” it is actually right to left and so small you cannot read it. So, I picked left to right and it is ok but there are blue highlights on the names, like a scroll bar. Any help on at least cleaning up the blue highlights? A top to bottom would be great too.
Correction, the “top to Bottom” it left to right not right to left.
@PaddyB Unfortunately this has been a problem for a while-- if you put Descendant Chart in the search box at the top of the page, you will find many discussions such as this one I posted a while back comparing RM 8, RM 9 and RM 7
As for a top to Bottom, basically the only way you can get a readable report is to stay with abt 3 generations where each family had a few kids-- if Mom and Dad had 9 kids-- forget it, you can’t even read the chart because you have 9 kids and spouses..
Now as for the blue highlights which is actually on all 4 types of reports , on the report settings, click on the arrow by No Coloring
Then click on arrow next to DEFAULT BOXES
UNDER FILL, move the little round circle to the area you want ( whole upper line is white)
generate a report to see if everything is how you want it–if NOT just keep moving the circle…
Thank you very much. One more question. The places of birth and dates of birth and even names start overlapping in the 3rd generation and 4th generation. Is there a way to correct that problem?
Maybe someone has a tip using page size/orientation.
Might require saving to different format (or word/pdf etc)
I haven’t found an exact solution for names overlapping and unfortunately, it’s not happening on my descendant chart BUT know others have mentioned it..
First try resetting the settings
then run the report again
if that does not work then as @kevync1985 said, you might have to play with the setting and maybe even try unchecking fit to page–BUT then it might have to be multiple pages to get it all— perhaps use landscape instead of portrait…
If it doesn’t matter if it is multiple pages, you could use BOX chart for descendants and it would print right I believe …
BTW-- is there any chance that you have RM 7 still yet? If so, you could make a gedcom of your file and open it with RM 7 and use wall charts to print a descendant chart-- I had to change the box sizes to get a printable 1 page report
BUT it is readable as RM 11 wasn’t
RM 7
RM11
