Hello
I’m trying to generate an A3 set of Charts from a large tree. I’m following the directions on the Website for Descendents Chart and all I get is a single line and one page displayed. See the screenshot of my settings. I’m using cm not inches.
If I use Fit to Chart I get this long horrible output
The screenshot shows 10?
have your tried redoing?
The “single line” is actually your entire descendant chart squeezed down into a wee tiny version to fit on one line. That’s because if you don’t “Fit To Chart”, it’s going to try to fit it down to a single page of the size you’ve specified (A3). If your Person has lots of descendants, that chart will end up resembling microprinting on currency, both on-screen and on a printout.
When you use Fit to Chart, it’s generating a chart that spans out as far as necessary. What you’re seeing in that second shot is just the far left edge of the output. You use the scroll along the bottom to move along the chart.
If you try to print out the Fitted chart, that’s when you can specify what paper size to print to. If you had a big sheet plotter you could output on a continuous page. Otherwise, if you specify A3 for your page size, you’ll get multiple sheets that you can tape together.
Another option would be to save your output to an image as an SVG, then use another program like Inkscape to manipulate it into the shape and size you’d like. (That might be more work and hassle than you want though.)
Thanks for the explanation. That then is useless to me as I want to print descendants over multiple pages. I’m trying to recreate old family paper printed charts that followed on from one another. I was hoping that we could do this to pdf formats and then be able to edit charts manually where links across pages may be needed, etc. I know I can do this with RM by choosing just 2 or 3 descendants at a time, but it’s an awful lot of work.I’d love to know what program/database was used for the old family tree, but as yet, I’m unable to find that out too.
Regards
Garth
I just tried with my 3rd GGF. He has 14 kids so lots of descendants. I made a page that was quite large (over 100 inches wide and about 100 high) i can see all with 7 or so generations. Not sure wht would happen if you try to print. Also I unchecked Fit to Chart

Charts in RM are rubbish, but there again they are in most Apps.
What is wrong with a nice neat Pedigree Chart that looks great, I can produce one in Reunion but not one of the same quality in RM.
It’s not about looking great. It’s to set up for a group of relatives that descend from the same ancestors so we can research together. I’m wanting to recreate missing paper charts that used to be available and we can only find a few who have a copy of their part of the tree
