I have a few hundred unlinked media files I would like to delete. Is there a process to delete them all at once in bulk? I tried selecting more than one file but the Media window only allowed me to select one file.
Do you mean simply to remove those media items from the Media gallery that are unused (untagged) by anything in the database? Or also delete the media files from the drive?
RM has no bulk removal process nor any file deletion tool. You could use outboard sqlite statements for bulk removal and to assist with files deletion.
A workaround within RM is to drag’n’drop everyone and everything they use to a new database. Unused items such as untagged media are not transferred but there are collateral losses you might not like.
Afternoon. After reading Tom’s response. Is there a locaton or video that will show how to use the “outboard sqlite” as well as to create the statements to do actions, such as the bulk removal of media that has broken links. (Background - I don’t upload my media. I use weblinks for the media for such as certificates of birth, marriage, death, census pages, etc.)
You can bulk delete unlinked media using the Enhanced Property tool. Just scroll down to the media section.
Margaret, first thanks for pointing me to the Enhanced property tool. I have 559 Missing Media Items and the only two options is to “fix” (searches for these files) or “view” (provides a listing of the missing media files). I am not seeing a way of deleting these missing media entries. Am I not looking in the right place?
Look at the Unused Media View. Once the list comes up you will be able to select all and then delete
After reading your response again, I got it done. What I missed last time, was to go to “Unused Media” and a list is presented. Then select all and then delete. This will delete all the “unused media” from the database. Thank you again.
