Can’t believe that we are at RM12 and we STILL can’t copy master sources between files. Yes, I know the work arounds but let’s be honest that they are all a pain as they require then cleaning up the database to get rid of unwanted people/sources - easier to recreate them for each file then spend the time doing that! We can copy people between files so surely this can’t be that hard to implement?
Do you know of any other genealogy programs that allow this? I don’t so I was just curious.
I don’t know about other programs, as I’ve been using RM for ages - ever since FTM started churning out expensive “upgrades” that were nothing but bells and whistles with no research tool focus.
I guess from where I stand, what other programs do is not relevant. What is relevant is whether this is a feature people would like in RM (and there is a history of posts that say the answer is yes) and is it something that can reasonably be implemented (I’m couldn’t program myself out of a paper bag, so what do I know?).
Ok, was just curious since the source focus seems to be on source templates and weeding them out right now.
Not to be picky or speak on behalf of the RM team (which I am not affiliated with), but what other programs do is absolutely relevant. When development teams are picking what they will put into their development pipeline, one of the key things they have to look at is whether the feature will help them sell more software and bring new users. Market research and keeping up with other competitors is key to a software company surviving, and as a user of the product, I want the RootsMagic company to stay healthy for a very long time.
I get your point about prioritizing what current users want, but it always has to be a balance between what the existing users want and what marketing needs to keep bringing in revenue.
