Can New Files Each Have Its Own Set of Default Folders?

I think the answer to this question is currently no, particularly given this recent feature request, Feature Request: separate folders settings for each file … but I’d be happy if I was told otherwise  and that it’s in the works!

I start new RM files for each new research project, none of which are my kin, FWIW. My research projects are tied to local history in and around one area here in Maine; e.g., David Howe, Assistant Marshall, and the District Allotted to him for enumeration in the 1790 U.S. Census; or another example, John Tinker, early settler along the Union River.

Before I begin my next little project related to a lost cemetery, this question arises from the need to be able to maintain individual RM files for each of these disparate individuals, but it seems that they are force to always share a global program setting for folders. Thank you for your help.

Kind regards,
Kelly

Default folders are program settings and not database specific. I setup my default folders so I can quickly select a sub-folder inside it for a project. For example my RM Backup folder has sub-folders for each project. When I create a backup I click browse and it opens the default folder, then I click on the sub-folder inside it. That is all the hunting I have to do.

Thanks Renee, that sounds like a good workaround for backups.
Do you similarly have things setup for Data, Media, GEDCOM & Report folders?

Yes, same with each default folder option. Media is a little different and I use ".\ " to tell it to open the last folder used. I keep the media folder for the project inside my data folder.

Having all related files as they pertain to a specific project and its database under a discrete project folder is something that hopefully will be considered, but until then, I think your adaptation to the situation will help me be more careful with each new RM project I set up going forward. Thanks again for your help Renee - it’s much appreciated!
