Can you share it a second time, with a role, then delete the first share?
I’ve been trying to follow this and it’s letting me add a new role. I’m probably not cancelling at the right point. Take me through the steps starting at adding the new fact to the Fact Type List.
Here are the steps: create a new fact (ie. ‘test’), add the fact to a person, display shared facts and add a new share. here is where the select people list comes up immediately followed with the ‘Edit Role Type’ window - cancel the ‘Edit Role Type’ window and then chose a person to share the ‘test’ fact and select ‘Ok’. in the ‘Edit Witness’ window the Role says but you can’t.
yes, as long as i define a role the second time.
Sorry I still can’t follow this. I don’t have the window just come up.
@rzamor1 I was able to duplicate this on a family and an individual fact-- after the role window appears and you close that-- you get this window
It says create new role BUT won’t allow you to do so-- the 1st time I did an individual fact and just shared with one person and it wouldn’t let me create the role using instructions above-- after that I shared it with several other people and it threw the box up to create the role when I click on create new role-- on the family one I tried sharing it with others and didn’t get the role box to appear again-- 2nd time as an individual fact, I had to keep sharing it several times before it worked–doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason for when it decides to work..
@Spyder best thing is to set up your roles ahead of time or set up role when the role box pops up the 1st time…
Yes, I know I should create the role first now but at the time I wasn’t sure what i what the sentence was going to look like so I thought I’d share first. It’s all good now but I don’t think the developers intended for this behaviour.
Here the screen shots as best as I can:
creating a brand new fact and adding it to the person
click the add witness (plus sign) and the add shared fact window comes up immediately followed by the edit role window (I did not get a chance to click on anything on the add shared fact window).
click cancel on the edit role type window, select a person to share and the shared facts window displays with the shared person but the role is empty (since it wasn’t defined) and the create new role option does nothing.
@Spyder and @rzamor1 --Well this is interesting-- the other day I had followed @Spyder directions as shown above BUT eventually I was able to create a role for the fact–again no rhyme or reason why it finally let me do it–once you get the Edit Role Type to come up, it will always work, so I deleted the fact and redid everything several times-- the last time I was never able to create a role–evidently I never closed RM 11 down-- got on there today to open a 2nd database besides the one that was already open–just as the 2nd database opened up pops this…
Can NOT do anything–every time I hit cancel or close on the Edit Role Type, it pops back up-- going to have to force quit to get out of this…
