Backup with media files

My occasional backups with the media files check box ticked, as your dialogue box says, take a while (actually a very long ‘while’). Would it be possible in a future release to add a progress bar to the ‘creating backup file’ dialogue box? It would be nice to know how progress is going to better plan my day.

Don’t back up with media. Just uncheck the media item. Your media is in a folder on your computer hopefully well organized in nested subfolders and backed up with your computer backup. RM backs up media as one giant folder of jumbled renamed files.

I only download media files occasionally and will back up without them daily. I also like to backup to removable drives in the event I have a catastrophic failure or (please no) a virus. When I do that I just want to know how long it will take - get a coffee length or go out for a meal!

By nested subfolders I assume you mean sub-directories! Yeah, I do that.

Confirming request for a progress bar has been reported to development.

Not accurate!
“one folder”? Yes
“jumbled”? That depends on the sort order you set in your file viewer.
“renamed”? No, except duplicate file names will get a tie-breaker added to the name.

Using RM to back media might not be the most efficient way to back up.
But that would depend on how "tech"knowledge a use might be.

I did a test backup with media and restore.

FTM did fine and kept the original media nested folders and file names.

RM created one media folder with original file names but no subfolder organization going from 1.05GB to 0.7GB in size.

Legacy kept the folder structure & names

Thanks everyone, very helpful. I’m happy with the one folder - yes I do have other backups but like several layers of redundancy.

BTW my full backup yesterday was 14.3GB so quite a lengthy operation even to an internal disc (subsequently copied to an external drive!).
