When exiting Note window, ask about saving!

In Edit Person, if I make changes (including to a Note) and then kill the window via ‘X’, the changes are automatically saved.

But if within Edit Person I open the Note in its own window, make changes and then kill that window via ‘X’, the changes are discarded without warning.

The latter behavior is unexpected, differs completely from the parent Edit Person behavior, and is unlike common practice which is to ask if changes should be saved.

==> Please add to Note edit window the option to save changes when killing that window via ‘X’.

If by open note in it’s own window, you mean this–then there is a SAVE AT THE BOTTOM

otherwise I’m not sure what you are talking abt

??? I’m talking about killing the window via ‘X’.

Standard practice in every app I know of is to then ask if unsaved changes should be discarded.

In fact the main Edit Person window saves them automatically when you ‘X’ the window! So the two windows behave exactly opposite to each other. I don’t care about this inconsistency beyond the fact that it leads me lose my work when I ‘X’ the Note window. That’s an error trap which should be removed.

So to get back on track:

==> Please add to the Note edit window the option / confirmation / warning / suggestion to save changes when killing that window via ‘X’.

@Arbie Did you tag this thread a feature request?

Yes. I’m asking the devs to add a function so that looked like the best choice.

Yes understood – bit that was not my question – if add the correct tags the RM team will notice it better just just in body of message.

?? It is tagged as a feature-request - isn’t it? I’m sure I did that. I must be misunderstanding you…

Though I wouldn’t call it a feature. It’s a safety belt that needs to be and could be added almost trivially. No tag for that, though.

So my question would be why not use the existing save button instead of doing something silly?. Simply stop clicking the x.

I addressed this at length already. Twice. … TLDR: human factors / error trap.

So to again get back on track:

==> DEVS please add to the Edit Person | Note edit window the option / confirmation / warning / suggestion to save changes when killing that window via ‘X’.

its considered a feature from the website POV. You called also add the issue tag.
Not sure how developers look at threads (or if Renee just passes them on ). This sort of gets into semantics — If the function is operating at the developers designed it – it considered a feature enchantment in most cases that is true about most IT departments. If its not – then its usually considered a bug. While something can be a bad design by many users it not necessarily a bug – I am sure if Renee has any other questions she will ask so she can pass on to developers. However, I would not bet it would be fixed in the release and they rarely hint at any fixed being done in next release (only time I have seen them to that was when they introduce a true new bug)

Now I understand and have added the “issue” tag, because it is an issue. Thanks.

As a software developer before retirement, this is a feature that we implemented as a standard. There is nothing that annoys users more than having to retype something because they closed a window and weren’t prompted to ask if they wanted to save the details.
