Tree share for Ancestry

When I use the tree share for ancestry, my citations are not being transferred to my ancestry tree. The source is being transferred only. How can I correct this? Thank you!

I am not sure on this – but my 1st question is how are the citations attached? to Fact/event? or Person? both or only one? I suspect that might have something to do with it

It can be on any event. For example, if I add a new person on my tree, I will need a source. I will use ancestry.com for my source. My citation will be the New York State birth index 1852-1956. I put all of that in roots magic. I then go to tree share and add it to my tree. When I go to ancestry.com to look at the tree, it only shows the source, not the citation. I have to manually put in the citation on my tree on ancestry. My question is why isn’t the citation being transferred?

Different data models. RM allows source and citation attached to person and A* only allows source. This is covered in the Treeshare Magic Guide.

I’ve never come across TreeShare not sending the full citation, unless you have extremely long text that gets cut off. I wonder if you have entered data in the Citation Name field and are expecting that to be included? The Citation Name is not part of the footnote. It’s for organization purposes only.

That is exactly what I did. Unfortunately for me, I have over 10,000 people in my tree and cannot add the citations on ancestry.com one by one. Should I add the citation as part of the source? Should I add it as a footnote?

It sounds as though you have never looked at a report from RM that included citations as footnotes or endnotes. You would have noticed that there was something wrong then. How could you have gotten to such a large tree without having done so?

If you have empty citations ( but for the name) and they are indeed tagged to persons, couples and facts (I was wondering if they were not), you will have to edit each one to put appropriate content into the Citation Details field(s) in RM.

If your sources all use the Free Form template and if the Citation Name is what you want in the footnote sentence, there is a way to copy it from one to the other en masse using a SQLite manager directly on the database. Otherwise, it’s a one by one procedure in RM.

I just started using roots magic. I transferred my data from family tree maker to roots magic and liked the tree share. I have been doing genealogy for 23 years so the 10,000 people is all those years of research. I am not that tech savvy so if I add any more data, I will make the citation a footnote

Did you use Tree Sync between FTM and Ancestry? If so, you could use RM TreeShare to download that Ancestry Tree rather than a GEDCOM from FTM. If that Ancestry tree has the citations as you wanted, then they should replicate in RM.

If you did not, then it would seem to be either an issue with the way you created citations in FTM or the choices you made in the settings for export from FTM or some bug with the RM GEDCOM Import…
