Thoughts on two setting to enter tasks

I am a bit puzzled by two settings for Tasks: Name and Priority.

  • What is the purpose of the first field in the task input dialog being called a “Name” field ? I don’t consider tasks having a “name”. They are action items (i.e. ToDo’s). Oddly enough, the Name field becomes the Task when the task is viewed in the Details section. So shouldn’t this field be called Task (or maybe Action) instead of Name in the data-input dialog box?
  • I’d appreciate having a way to set my own variations on the priority scale. I prefer for example using a GTD/4-Quadrant approach with just four priorities (i.e. Urgent+Important, Urgent, Important, Not Urgent + Not Important).
  • In the same vein as above, I’d prefer that tasks start with a default priority of None rather than Highest (1). My options list for priority thereby would be: None, U+I, U, I, NU+NI.

Seriously man? Why don’t you just sit down and write your own Mac compatible app. This way you can include that which is so near and dear to your heart. The name field exists for you to identify the task and I truly fail to see your comparison to a ToDo. You don’t name your ‘action items’? That would seem to be quite silly if you don’t know what each is…which is precisely the use of the name field. Earlier versions had a ToDo list which was altered in RM8 and later so it could be used more widely so a change now is not likely. Even then you named the ToDo item.

As for your 4 quadrant approach..again, why not write your own app since you have such variant needs? There is simply no way to code in variations for everyone’s specific preferences. If they alter the whole program so you can have your approach, then they most likely would never manage to add new or useful features because they would be coding everyone’s personal need.

Of all your posts, you are asking for a lot of edge case stuff which only a small minority would want to use.

I think learning SQLITE , database, Power Query and Power BI might be useful to you. The database is open - if you are only reading you are generally safe (though its best to close other connections still). Officially RM recommends user do NOT access database via such tools – but it sounds like you might need for some of the things you want / need

The (context-sensitive) help (function key F1) directly answers this.

Being as how your scale is essentially (1-4)… why not just use 1-4 ONLY and leave the flexibility for others to implement all 9, if they so choose ?

Based on feedback, I withdraw my suggestions. Which is not to say that I concede that I should not have asked them in the first place.
