It would be really great if there was a report, or a way to tell if a source template was being used in a source and what sources were using them.

Agreed. It has been a wished-for feature since Source Templates were introduced. You can see what template a Source uses but not what Sources use a given template. More than a decade ago, a user skilled in SQL database queries demonstrated a solution that could have been readily adopted by the RM developers:
