I found several topics concerning source duplicates when syncing RM 10 and Ancestry but I don’t think my specific issue has been addressed. In RM I use “master sources” and, if needed, several citations linked to specific facts. In Ancestry all sources suddenly are multiplied as often as a fact is linked to them. At first I thought that maybe one duplicate for each citation has been created, but no, even the details (aka citations?) are exact the same. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Thank you
In TreeShare are you marking all changes that are needed before clicking on Accept Changes? Otherwise, it will send duplicates if you send the same source more than once.
Thank you for the quick answer. Honestly I can’t recall the exact steps I’ve made since the first upload. What I don’t get: If I change any source that’s already been synced with Ancestry, for example add a new Information or correct a former mistake, the source then will be duplicated in Ancestry instead of being changed?
You shouldn’t see duplicate source details uploaded from RM to Ancestry. The duplication issue comes from ancestry to RM.
When you create a RM source/citation by treesharing a source down from ancestry, an entry is made in a special RM table that is not visible to the user. As long as that table entry exists, the Ancestry source will be unchanged upon subsequent treeshare uploads. In other words, changes that you make in RM to any field in the RM Ancestry Record Source template will not be reflected back on the ancestry site. The ancestry source will always appear as the original.
If the RM source was created in RM and then uploaded to ancestry via treeshare it will appear in ancestry in the “Other Sources” section of the page. In this scenario, changes you make in RM source/citation do get uploaded to ancestry based on pre-defined field mapping rules. However, as I recall, not every RM citation change will trigger a mismatch in treeshare.
[edit: One thing that may be occurring is that RM Event or Fact Notes get treeshared to Ancestry as a separate entry in the “Other Source” part of the web page and are linked to the fact. Perhaps this is what you are seeing as a duplicate on the ancestry side.]
