Should I upgrade to 11.1.2, Run TreeShare on Existing Problem Uploaded RM to Ancestry Tree or Disconnect and TreeShare older backup as New Fresh Ancestry Tree or Disconnect, Rename Existing Problem Tree and TreeShare Upload?

I’m on an M1 Mac running Sonoma and am still running RM 11.0.40 on which I had been working on a OneTree database that I made in RM from combining four Ancestry tree downloads. After many attempts and fixes I was able to upload my OneTree file (435 people) to Ancestry, but much of the media did not make it and it doesn’t recognize fully some of my sources, etc.. I kept working on it in both Ancestry and RM, but lots of issues left. The last TreeShare I did was on 07 March 2026. I needed a break and thought I’d wait while some of the bugs got worked out of new update. I know this newer 11.1.2 update is supposed to help with some of these issues.

My question is, should I do the 11.1.2 upgrade, make new upgrade backups of my RM trees and then:

a) Try to run TreeShare on the existing Problem Ancestry OneTree and hope it fixes things, or

b) Disconnect the tree and use one of my older backups of the initial fresh uploaded OneTree and upload as a new OneTree, or

c) Disconnect the existing tree, rename it and TreeShare it?

d) Any other suggestions?

I have already spent a considerable amount of time getting as far as I’ve gotten and I’m frustrated with having to put so much time into just trying to get RM and Ancestry to play nice with each other. I would rather put this time into actually working on my genealogy.

How/What are you using to do research?

If it’s Ancestry, I’d say keep doing that and not be concerned with TreeShare to RM at this time (I’m not having any issues).

I’d also update to latest version.

Thanks for your quick reply, you’ve helped me in the past to prep for and combine this OneTree, thanks. I use both Ancestry and FamilySearch to do research as well as various websites of archives, county clerks, genealogy societies, etc.. My goal in using RM TreeShare with Ancestry was to create and upload One Tree on Ancestry instead of having the five Ancestry trees for different branches and have my own backup copy of the Ancestry tree on my computer, as well as be able to add FamilySearch sources with TreeShare and the websites manually. At this point, I’m questioning how realistic that is. I will do the upgrade. I’m not clear on your suggestion just to work in Ancestry, what do you mean by that as it relates to RM? I will use Ancestry but how are you suggesting to use it? What would I do with the OneTree in Ancestry and RM? Thanks.

There are a couple of types of people, ones who have only research using RM, ones who only use Ancestry, ones who just use FamilySearch, others use RM & Ancestry, others use RM & FamilySearch and still others like you who use all 3.

That is why I asked how you research since each has their own quirks.

Since your media in RM had issues uploading, I’d just work in Ancestry until it can be fixed. Up to you

right now both API versions are still active. It is believe things will improve (Performance wise) when there is only one. I tested on a tree that has nearly ZERO media – and it works fine.

Ok, thank you for your explanation, I appreciate it. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you. I hope they do improve. I will go ahead and update and backup everything as usual and see what happens. Funny enough I had no real issues downloading my branch trees from Ancestry into RM. Do we have any idea when they’re switching to one API?
