Sharing Program

Can 2 family members use the same RM program or do we both need our own key

I believe more than one person in the same household can use the same license key.

Absent further detail …as long as they live in the same place as your computer lives.

Ok, she lives up north and I’m south, I’ll get it for her as a gift

Keep in mind if you are sharing DB and media files over distance you might run into new challenges.

I think our own copies and share 1 tree

database and tree are not necessarily same thing. If you mean you have two working copies – do you mean working on the exact same file database

One tree at ancestry, 2 databases, updating from ancestry

Do you plan to do TreeSync bi-directionally (ie. update down from Ancestry and update up to Ancestry)?

If yes, you may run into contention due to timing.

If you and your other person just happen to push an update up to Ancestry at the same time, Ancestry will have to decide which updates to accept & which to reject. Then your two databases are no longer in sync.

From the sound of it the process you are attempting sounds good “In theory”
but likely no so much in practice – unless you use a method such as odd/even parking.

One of you only does work Sunday/Tue/Thu/Sat and the other Mon/Wed/Fri – even then with outages I am not sure how successful it will be– you could be lucky and get several years with no issue but it one of those you are more likely than not to over time to run into issue
