Shareable USB That Works on a MAC

I have been reading about making a shareable USB on the forum, some of the information is conflicting. I am considering making one for my grandson. He has a MAC and I have a PC. Could someone direct me to a tutorial on how to make a shareable USB that will work on a MAC?

It’s the same as the PC version but you have to use a Mac computer to create it. You cannot make a Mac version using a PC.

Can you make a HTML website, load it to a USB, and have a MAC be able to view it?

Sure, the website files get created in a sub-folder under your Data folder with the same name as the website. Share that sub-folder (saved to USB medium or email a .ZIP file) to the Mac user and they should be able to open the index.htm or .html file in their browser.

You can also export a GEDCOM and send that. He can download the free version of RootsMagic Essentials for MAC and use it to import the GEDCOM.

I made the html of my database, installed it on a USB. Plugged it into my Linux Mint laptop, opened the file and it played fine. However, once I copied the html file to the documents folder of Mint, none of the photos would open. Strange.

Did you also move the images to the documents folder also? And what do you mean by “it played fine”? HTML files don’t play. They open in a web browser. Also what do you mean that you “installed it on a USB”? You don’t install HTML files.

The .html file has links to the images as a very particular file path to the subfolder (C:\path\to\images) of its root drive letter (C:\ D:\ etc.) . Make a subfolder hierarchy on the USB drive to match that path and copy the specific images (or all of them) to that \images\ subsubfolder.

I copied the RM HTML folder to a USB. I plugged the USB into a Linux laptop and opened the index.html file and was able to view all the data as a website. When I copied the folder to the Linux pc I could not open the photos within the persons family group sheet. I learned the problem seems to be Linux does not like the file names with capital letters in that environment, but will open them when selected separately when I access the folder. I hope I am explaining that correctly. Its not a RM problem, I guess I should not use caps when naming a file.

If I rename the file without caps, it works. The strange thing is it works fine when played directly from the USB. If I change all the photo files to small letters, it works. It is not an RM problem.
