Searching for reference numbers

It would be nice to be able to type the reference number into the Index search bar to find the person, instead of having to go the Advanced Person Search.

Do you have record # turned on?

Confirming the request to search by REFN has been reported to development. I’m sure it gets a little dicey when numbers are being used as REFNs.

It does show the reference number, but when you sort the list by reference number, it gets ordered as if it was a name (1,10,11,12,13,14,…,19,2,20,21).

Reference ‘number’ is a misnomer. It is an alphanumeric field. Reference ‘code’ would be more accurate but ‘number’ is in the GEDCOM definition established generations ago.

I believe Reference Numbers (REFN) is being used as in filing systems, like libraries have. They are alphanumeric.

I would definitely have a problem using REFN in the search box because I enter a relationship code in mine. Many people can have the same one. However, there are users that entered their RINs into the REFN field to preserve filing systems referencing them.
