Still playing around with my new shiny toy, RM12 and looking at the Tree View. In the screenshot below, you can see that David-Pierre AMEZ-DROZ and his wife Marie VAUTHIER share children and both of these people show a parentage branch above each. (Sorry about the surnames in caps. It is inherited data from another person’s database who typed in the surnames that way).
Bearing that in mind, now look at the relationship of their daughter, Susanne Marie AMEZ-DROZ. She and her husband, Henry Louis MONNIER, share children. The expanding arrow below them works just fine. But…
I noticed in the Life Summary for Henry Louis, his parents are listed. Meanwhile, on the Tree View, he doesn’t have an upward expanding arrow… Am I missing something? Is that somehow expected? What rationale would say, “sometimes there is an expanding arrow and sometimes now”? Is there some setting I have not set correctly?
Your “stepfather” wording threw me off, so I’m posting this pic to try to help. You can see that Henry Louis, shown in the right-side Family View, has fa-Jean Pierre MONNIER and mo-Marianne MOSSET listed in the Life Summary section. Moreover, when I look at his profile page, I see both his father and mother listed as “birth”, and that might be the answer to your question.
So, my original point was, in the Tree View why isn’t there an upward expanding arrow to open the branch above for his parents?
Try changing the focus from David_Pierre to Susanne. The focus of David is to show his descendant and parents. Henry is not a descendant, just the spouse of a descendant.
If I understand your question correctly, the issue comes down to the fact that many of the main views has a Primary Person defined. The Primary Person does not have to be the person who is presently highlighted. For example, in Pedigree View the Primary Person is the leftmost person. But you can highlight and give the focus to anybody in Pedigree View and the same person remains as the Primary Person in the left most position, although the no longer are the person with the focus.
With that in mind, if you want to see Henry Louis MONNIER’s parents, you can right click him and Move To Primary Position. You can get a similar but not quite identical effect by clicking on one of Henry Louis MONNIER’s parents in the Life Summary and doing a Go To that person.
When I change focus from David-Pierre to Susanne, you are right and the parents of her husband now appear.
Now I understand the way it works here in RM12. But, in my experience navigating tree information in other apps, any person who appears which has parents or children would typically have an arrow to expand. So, if I open a tree with father ‘F1’ as the focus person and see that parents ‘F1’ and ‘M1’ have a child ‘C1’ who is married to ‘C3’, if C3 had parents he/she should have an expansion arrow… That’s just how I’ve seen it work in other apps…
