Problems with media download from Ancestry with new API

I updated RM to 11.4.0.0 today.
Downloaded an ancestry-tree.
Got no media at all.

What to do?

Try deleting the .DT11 files. I would say do the Reset Treeshare, but Reset has to be used on a database that is connected to the specific tree, it’s probably best to delete all .DT11 files now. If you see any .DT8 files delete those because they are no longer needed. Then do a fresh download of the Ancestry tree.

I fiddled with what rzamor1 suggested and it solved it for me.

I Reset TreeShare, deleted the RootsMagic database and deleted the .DT11 files.
When I first retried downloading the Ancestry Tree, I had neglected to close/restart the program (as I should have) and though it completed 100% of Step 1, it then hung. Had to end the process via Task Manager and then repeat the steps in that same order.

I then restarted RootsMagic fresh, created a new database from online (via TreeShare) and was rewarded with all the media downloading… as JUST an EDITOR of someone else’s tree.

If they should be deleted, RootsMagic should do.
Please do that by RM 11.5.0.0 !!

I had hoped that 11.4.0.0 would resolve my download issues from Ancestry into RootMagic 11.

I’ve been having the same issue since 11.0.0.0.

I’m running on a M4Pro Mac mini running MacOS 26.0. The issue is that it gets to the Media download part and stops at 4% every time. When I look in the RootsMagic folder the media folder only contains ~200 of the 4497 images. Looking at the MediaTable in the database it show 4497. Looking in the Media Gallery in RootMagic, everything shows a Red X and no image except for the 200 that downloaded. I tried the same steps in kbens0n post. Still download of media stops at 4%. The download and importing of the family tree is successful every time. Only downloading the media fails. I have even tried copying all the media files from the Family Tree Maker media folder into the RootsMagic Media folder and under Media/Tools Re-Link the missing files. It reports successfully relinking 408 file with 4018 files missing. Even though all the media files from Family Tree Make media folder were copied over to RootsMagics Media folder. I have yet to be able to download my tree from Ancestry into RootsMagic on an Apple Silicon based Mac

I tried an experiment when I had RootsMagic 11.3.0.0 installed. On my M4 Pro Mac mini I created a Windows 11 25H2 arm64 virtual machine. I had to install the 32bit version of RootsMagic to get it to install. It apparently uses built in Windows 11 emulation to run a 32bit Intel application. Using this configuration I was able to successfully download my tree and all media. However it is painfully slow downloading and running RootsMagic.

Is anyone successfully running RootsMagic 11 on an Apple Silicon Mac?

Thank You so much for the detailed pointer to the files to remove. I tried to do a download to what I thought was a new, clean file but media still didn’t transfer. Your .DT11 file removal did the trick!

if that should be done — it would need to be evaluated if it would harm other users.

(not just fix for a handful of users)

ps. I do not know the extent / purpose of those files so it difficult to know when/if they should be deleted - one should be cautious to delete them and likely only do so if instructed by RM team

I’ve been struggling with being stuck downloading media ever since my first version 11 download. As recommended somewhere else, I also made sure that my Mac didn’t go to sleep.

I downloaded 11.4.0 when I saw that it should address this issue, and deleted the DT11 and DT8 files. (Thank you for the Mac instructions!) That did help…I finally got beyond 2% on downloading my media files. Unfortunately, then I got stuck at 12%, and gave up after an hour.

After that, I updated my OS to Tahoe 26.5.2 in case 11.4.0 was optimized to work with the current OS, and tried again. Same. Wiped out DT11 files and tried again. Now I’m stuck again at 2% on my media files.

My goal is to switch from doing most of my work in Ancestry to using RootsMagic as my primary tree, and I really want a clean Ancestry download to start with. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do next? Thanks in advance!
