In RM Help:
Privacy brackets { } – these allow you to control text the you want to keep private unless you specifically choose to include it in reports and other outputs.
I placed these brackets around part of Media Descriptions - some information in the bracket, some without bracket. When I created Scrapbook report and unchecked “Print private facts” report had Description private part - part in {}, but not description part without {}.
Does command { } still work and what I did wrong?

Filling in the Description field of a Media item does use the Note editor control (obviously to take keyboard input) but, essentially, it is not a Note …in and of itself (it’s a Media Description). The online Help lists a Feature List that claims only private notes and private events.
You make it sound like you got some “mix” of the Description text, while I get ALL the Description text and character symbols:

What are events? Same as Facts or something different. How to create Private events? And where in the RootsMagic?
Maybe we need to suggest to add Privacy brackets option to Media Description?
Then it will be possible to add reference information to Description (like file location on computer) but exclude this information from different reports (Scrapbook etc.)
You have to think about such things in broad terms of how many RM users and how often would they be privatizing a portion of the Media Description and would it be compatible and useful outside the program itself. I believe you’re the first in 15 or more years to mention such a thing, nothing against you inquiring… just saying.
yeah I wondering the demand and practical use of – but there could be other enhancements to toggle Private or not but not something granular as a “desc”
I know people use diffeerent systems to reference Media (photo, documents, etc.) original location. I copy to Description file path on my computer, like
“D:\mim\DPictures\MY PICTURES\Canon or phone downloads\2026\20260223_093925.jpg”
However, I dont need this information in any report. Now the whole description copied to report.
I new to RootsMagic and the more I use it the more I like it. I discovering more and more options build into this software.
Another reason I want private some of the information - I am planning to use GedSite to create webpages for my tree. GedSite has special setting for GEDCOM from RootsMagic. But I don’t need some reference information like folder address on my computer to be included to website.
