I was playing with searches and used last edited as a criteria. I noticed that if I added media or a citation it does not update that the person was edited. If I add a caption to media or make a change to a citation it doesn’t update that the person was edited.
I would assume any change to something about a person would update the last date edited.
Is this a bug or just the way it is?
Confirming it has been this way, but it has also been reported. I cannot confirm if it’s considered a bug or not.
yes it has been unclear what changes should (and are NOT expected) to change the persons edit date. I think some minor changes probably should NOT alter the edit date, however I understand that some changes that one would think would update the edit do not.
The Date Last Edited field is extremely unreliable. I once tried to list all the ways it is inconsistent, and was unable to list all the ways because there are so many of them and because many of them are very subtle.
However, I agree that it’s very difficult to know what should count as an edit for a person. For example, nothing changed by a Search and Replace updates any Date Last Edited field. Should it? I don’t know. This could be thousands of people at one fell swoop. For another example, if you make corrections or other changes to a place name in the Place screen, it doesn’t update any Date Last Edited fields for the people using those places. Should it? I don’t know.
it seems most direct changes might change data while most indirect change mostly won’t or don’t.
It would be difficult to get a consensus with the nuances and understanding of terminology etc
