Handling of fact notes by Treeshare

As a coincidental follow-up to a recent post about deleting notes from events, I have a little problem.

I’ve identified a dozen or so people in my RM database who have a “Y” in the note field for their death event in both RM and Ancestry which I think were a leftover from transferring data from another package that couldn’t tell the difference between someone still being alive and someone there was no death details…so I used a “Y” in the death note field to indicate they were actually dead.

I’ve cleared all these rogue "Y"s out and I’ve now found out that Treeshare identifies there is a difference in the data, but it will only allow me to either create a second event, update the event in RM from Ancestry (putting the “Y” back!), or delete the whole event from Ancestry.

Any ideas on how I resolve this? The only way I’ve found so far is use the delete from Ancestry option, then manually update the event in RM twice to generate an edit flag…and run Treeshare again which will then prompt me to transfer the death details back into Ancestry. Somewhat a pain!!!

sounds like might be an FTM thing – when I came to RM from FTM that was a thing used to force DEATH. I do NOT user ANC TS that way so I can not advise on best way but you can create a group to find them easily.

The Ancestry API doesn’t allow sending a blank to overwrite text. You would have to delete either the fact as a whole or on their website.
